Mission Office

The Mission Office at St. Paul’s Hospital helps ensure that compassion, dignity, and holistic care remain central to everything we do. Inspired by the founding legacy of the Grey Nuns, we support a culture where values aren’t just written on the wall – they’re lived in every interaction by every staff member.

We believe people thrive when they feel part of something meaningful. That’s why the Mission Office supports programs, events, and community partnerships that nurture the spirit of the hospital and the people within it.

Our work includes coordinating Mission Week, Community Days, and the Long Service Awards, as well as overseeing the Healing Arts Program, and publishing The Lifeline, our staff newsletter. We also partner on initiatives that promote reconciliation, inclusion, and community engagement, both inside the hospital and out in the community.

From reflective events to quiet support; from creative care to community-building, we help keep the mission of St. Paul’s Hospital and Foundation alive in everyday moments by sharing the important message that every staff person of the hospital and foundation plays an important role in growing and deepening our mission.

The Spirit of St. Paul’s Video Series

What does the mission mean to the people who live it every day? Watch The Spirit of St. Paul’s video series to hear directly from staff about how compassion, connection, and care shape their work.

The Spirit of St. Paul’s Videos (and the Advent videos connected to them) are still worth keeping on the website but I’d like to see them put into an accessible archives for easy reference.  The new video series needs to be highlighted so that they are the first and easiest videos to access.  I think we can keep the title of “The Spirit of St. Paul’s Videos”.

Mission Week

Mission Week is a time to pause and reflect on what brings meaning to our work. Learn more about how you can join our hospital community as we celebrate shared values through art, storytelling, feasts and lectures.

Community Day

Community Day brings neighbours, staff, and partners together to celebrate the spirit of St. Paul’s Hospital here in Pleasant Hill. Join us in recognizing the relationships that make St. Paul’s a trusted part of the community.

The Lifeline

Stay connected to the heart of St. Paul’s! The Lifeline shares staff stories, upcoming event and celebrations, reflections, and updates that reflect the mission and culture of our hospital community.

The Mission Office supports staff, patients, families, and community partners by cultivating a hospital culture based on respect and compassion. We also play a key role in maintaining meaningful connections with the surrounding Pleasant Hill neighbourhood, where many of our patients and visitors live and work.

Our programs include ethics consultations, Healing Arts, the Healing Arts Gallery, Long Service and Mission Awards, Charism Award, Jean Morrison Award, staff recognition events, and The Lifeline newsletter. We also coordinate Mission Week and Community Day, partner on reconciliation and inclusion initiatives, and help shape a new space that reflect our values, like the Indigenous Healing Centre at the new hospital entrance.

The Mission Office works behind the scenes and out in the open, offering both practical support and spiritual grounding for patients at St. Paul’s Hospital and their loved ones. We believe that care is most powerful when it addresses the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. We also know that a values-driven culture can help people do their best work, feel connected, and support each other through challenge and change.
