Kidney Health & Provincial Transplant Services

St. Paul’s Hospital has been a center of excellence in Kidney Health dating back to the introduction of dialysis in 1962 and the first kidney transplants in western Canada, performed by Dr. Baltzan, in 1963.  Now as part of a provincial network, , St. Paul’s Hospital continues to lead the way  offering hope, expertise, and compassionate care for people living with kidney disease in Northern and Central Saskatchewan.

Our hospital is also home to the Saskatchewan Transplant Program.

Our innovation continues to lead the way, with Early Screening Programs, education program, clinics, dialysis programs and  transplant, our teams are here to support patients every step of the way. With services in hospital, community, and home settings, we empower people to manage their kidney health with confidence and dignity.

At St. Paul’s Hospital, we believe in patient-centred care, education and access. Our services are delivered in-hospital, in the community and at home — meeting patients where they are and supporting them throughout their care journey.

Hemodialysis services are available at:

  • St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon
  • The St. Paul’s Hospital Outpatient Renal Health Centre
  • Satellite units in Lloydminster, North Battleford, Prince Albert, Meadow Lake, and Tisdale

Through our Home-Based Therapies Program, we also provide peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis education. This program empowers patients with the tools, training and support they need to manage their dialysis safely and confidently at home.

Our Chronic Kidney Disease Outreach Program is privileged to partner with Northern communities to deliver early screening, intervention and training. By identifying people at risk for kidney disease, we provide education and care that can help prevent renal failure, slow disease progression and improve quality of life.

Our services include:

  • In-hospital and community-based hemodialysis
  • Peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis training
  • Chronic Kidney Disease Outreach for prevention and education
  • Education and engagement around organ and tissue donation

We believe in patient-centred care, education and access. By combining in-hospital care with outreach and home-based programs, we empower patients to take an active role in their health. The Saskatchewan Transplant Program also works across sectors to promote organ donations and support transplant patients at every stage.

Kidney Health Services are located in B Wing, 3rd Floor at St. Paul’s Hospital
