Comfort and Care

From cozy furnishings to memory-making spaces, your support helps provide home-like comforts to families in our care.
At St. Paul’s Hospital, we believe the final chapter of life should be filled with comfort, dignity and human connection. In our Palliative Care Unit, we walk alongside patients and families with tenderness, compassion and deep respect – caring not only for the body, but for the heart and spirit as well.
Our 12 private rooms, located on the fifth floor of St. Paul’s Hospital, offer a peaceful setting where patients can be surrounded by the people and comforts that matter most. Every detail—from around-the-clock medical care to music therapy and the comfort care cart—is designed to make each moment meaningful.
We understand that this is a deeply personal time. Our team is here to listen, support, and honour what matters most to you.

We care for adults living with life-limiting illness who are in the final weeks or months of life and can no longer be supported at home. We also support the family and caregivers around them, providing space, guidance and resources to help them feel present and cared for. Our goal is to support the whole circle of care with compassion and clarity.
Located on the fifth floor of St. Paul’s Hospital, our Palliative Care Unit provides around-the-clock medical and nursing care in a quiet, supportive environment. Patients and families have access to an interdisciplinary team of nurses, physicians, social workers, and spiritual care specialists who provide medical care as well as music therapy, healing arts programming and other supports.
Amenities include a family kitchen, stillness and sacred spaces, a comfort care cart, memory tree, personalized room features, and volunteer-led programs. Grief and bereavement resources are available to help patients and families find strength and healing.
The generosity of the St. Paul’s Hospital and Foundation donor community also makes it possible for us to provide patients and their loved ones with items that help bring comfort and ease – like warm blankets, refreshments, décor, art supplies and birthday celebrations.
Our care is person-centred, holistic and rooted in the values of respect and dignity. We work closely with patients and families to understand what matters most to them, and tailor our supports accordingly. We understand that end-of-life care is about more than physical comfort – it is about being seen, heard and valued, which is why each care plan is individualized.
With generous donor support, we can go beyond clinical care to offer holistic programming and legacy projects that help families create lasting memories.
We know how important connection is, which is why families are welcome anytime. After 8:00 p.m., please use the Emergency Department entrance to access the unit. Quiet spaces like the family room, stillness room, and ceremonial room are available for private reflection. Please speak to the care team to coordinate your visit or discuss how we can support meaningful time together.
If you or someone you love may benefit from palliative care, speak with your current health care provider. You can also learn more at the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s Palliative Care Services page.
